APAX SHOWCASE: JULIA
JULIA is a powerful and gripping solo work performed by one of Australia's leading contemporary dancers, Natalie Allen, in a co-creation with director Sally Richardson, and an exciting team of Independent performance makers.
Drawn from the parliamentary record, media reportage and public commentary around the political leadership of Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, this show directly reflects on Gillard’s story. In a post #metoo world, Natalie brings to life Julia Gillard's words through her daring physicality and dynamic theatricality to create a dramatic live portrait of one of Australia’s feminist heroines. A critical and box office hit this is "unmissable" dynamic dance theatre.

ABOUT STEAMWORKS ARTS
We create socially and politically charged performances in collaboration with multi-disciplined artists including designers, choreographers, performers, writers, composers and film-makers. The result is challenging and relevant works that combine contemporary ideas with a powerful theatricality.
We seek to break down the boundaries between different art forms exploring and developing new languages in the creation of original works, while shaping an Australian performing arts culture that is environmentally sustainable reflecting and engaging with our changing society and the region in which we live. We work with emerging and established artists and companies, while actively championing the voice, creativity, vision and leadership of women in the performing arts.
